Description
Eames Plastic Stool High RE is a collection of stools designed by Charles & Ray Eames and produced by Vitra. Chrome-plated or powder-coated tubular steel base, non-stackable. Ideal for counters and tables between 110 and 120 cm high, shell made of mass-dyed recycled polypropylene. The Eames Plastic Side Chair was the first mass-produced plastic chair; after their debut in the ‘Low-Cost Furniture Design’ competition organized by the Museum of Modern Art in 1948, the Plastic Armchair and Plastic Side Chair were launched onto the market in the 1950s. Since 2024, the shells of the Eames Plastic Chairs and Stools have been made from recycled plastic; this material is derived from the recycling of household waste, used in particular in packaging, delivered as part of the ‘Yellow Sack’ (Gelber Sack) collection program in Germany. The use of this raw material instead of petroleum-based primary plastic generates fewer climate-damaging emissions and significantly reduces primary energy consumption. Due to the composition of the material, the colors of the seat shell have very small pigment stains. As the new material cannot be produced in the color white, the white version will continue to be produced in virgin polypropylene, which is 100 % recyclable.
